Farmville - Levonzel Glaspie (formerly of Duplin County), passed on March 28, 2017, at his home.

Levonzel Glaspie, son and the fourth child of the late James Asper Glaspie and the late Irene Graham Glaspie, was born January 7, 1941 in Magnolia, NC.  He transitioned from this earthly life into eternal rest at his home in Farmville, North Carolina.

During his youth, he united with First Missionary Baptist Church of Magnolia, NC and was baptized by Rev. T. H. Rand.

As a child, Levonzel was always smart, intelligent, courteous, and eager to learn.  He enjoyed fishing, swimming and the outdoor life.  He was forever surprising his father about some of the things he was capable of doing at a young age.  His siblings often looked to him for advice and respected him just as he respected them.  He was always determined to maintain A’s and B’s in school which he did accomplish.  He was an honor student and was salutorian of the class of 1959 at the former E. E. Smith High School, Kenansville, North Carolina. His notebook was stuffed with papers that only “he could find what he needed".

After graduation, he entered Saint Augustine College, Raleigh, North Carolina.  While there, he was president of the art club and was a member of the Canterbury Club, the Pen Staff Club, National Education Association and the NAACP.  He received a Batchelor of Arts Degree with a major in French and a minor in Art.

Levonzel was employed by Moore County Board of Education as a High School French Teacher at Pickney High School in Carthage North Carolina from 1963 -1966.  He taught in Lumberton from 1966-1969.

Later he transferred and was employed by Pitt County Board of Education from 1969-1997.  He served as French and English Instructors.  Levonzel was a very dedicated teacher and he was highly respected by his students and fellow co-workers. 

Levonzel retired in 1997.  He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and taking care of his lawn.

Levonzel served as caregivers for his parents and sister, Peggy, with patience until their demise.

Surviving to cherish memories are his brothers, James Glaspie (Mary) of Mystic Connecticut and Freddie Glaspie (Julie) of Philadelphia, PA; sister, Bernice Glaspie McCoy (Douglas) of Phildelphia, PA; a nephew, Maurice Glaspie (Cynthia) of Magnolia, NC; a special aunt, Allie Pearl Glaspie of Magnolia, NC and Janice Glaspie Aultman; uncle, Richard Glaspie (Gertrude) of Brooklyn, NY; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
