Perry L. Carlton, 92,son of the late James and Minnie Carlton, was born on August 25, 1924 in Duplin County, N.C. He entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 28, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Perry graduated high school in Duplin County. He was reared in a Christian home by his parents along with his ten siblings. Perry and his siblings tended the family’s garden and farm animals. They cared for each other greatly.
Perry joined Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Olive, North Carolina at the age of thirteen. He loved his church and was a faithful member. He served on the Usher Board for over 70 years and president for over 25 years. He also served as Trustee for over 40 years.
Perry was an adventurous young man and wanted to see the world. He enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1944-1946.
On October 4, 1947, Perry married the love of his life, Daisy Pearsall. This union was blessed for seventy years with eleven children.
Perry was a proud father and grandfather. He encouraged and supported them as well as others in all their endeavors. He worked as a Civil Service employee, retiring from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base after thirty years. He also worked part-time at Mount Olive Pickle Company.
His humorous, charismatic and matter of fact commentary caused many people to engage him. Even as he endured sickness, he remained faithful.
Today we thank God for the many years we shared with him. A life well lived, service well rendered to God, country, family and friends.
