Kenansville - Ronald Miller, 61, transitioned on March 30, 2017 at VA Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.
Ronald Lee Miller “Ronnie” son of the late Samuel W. Miller, Sr. and Esther M. Miller was born August 25, 1955 in Kenansville, N. C. On Thursday morning, March 30, 2017, with his family by his side at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA, he peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to his eternal home.
Ronnie attended the Duplin County Public Schools and graduated from James Kenan High School in Kenansville, N. C. He later attended James Sprunt Community College and graduated with an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. Ronnie served two separate extended tours of duty in the U.S. Army, a total of approximately 23 years of honorable service. During his time in service he received various meritorious awards and commendations and was honorably discharged in 2001 as a Sergeant (E6). He also spent several years working at National Spinning factory in Kenansville, North Carolina and Lowes Home Improvement Stores in Clinton, North Carolina.
At an early age, he became a member of the Big Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Kenansville, North Carolina where he regularly attended and gained religious training during his youth.
Ronnie was a “people person” who enjoyed talking; therefore, no one was a stranger. He enjoyed watching TV, especially sports. (I am sure he would be overjoyed to know that his favorite team, the UNC Tarheels won the “March Madness” Final Four and are headed to the Championship!) Prior to his illness, Ronnie enjoyed helping seniors and others who needed transportation getting to and from medical appointments or other places they needed to go. He was a selfless person who always gave of himself without expecting anything in return.
Ronnie will be dearly missed by many and will forever hold a very special place in our hearts.
Ronnie is preceded in death by his father, Samuel W. Miller, Sr., his mother, Esther M. Miller, and his brother, Elgin R. Miller.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving son, Terrance Farrior of Petersburg, Virginia; a devoted sister and brother-in-law, Ethel Andrews (Leon) of Richmond, Virginia; a devoted brother, Samuel Miller, Jr. (Grace) of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Stephen Graham, Omarques and Zacchaeus Farrior; a niece, Camille Andrews; a nephew, Erwin Miller; two aunts, Julia Miller and Dossie Miller; an uncle, Ben Miller; very special friends, Ellis and Beverly Faison, Willie Faison and Thomas Stokes “Mann” and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting that a donation be made to Big Zion AME Zion Church, P. O. Box 86, Kenansville, NC 28365 in honor of Ronnie Miller, or make a donation to your favorite charity in Ronnie's name.
