Faison - Mother Bertha Lee Hill, 93 of 417 E. Main St. went from labor to reward on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at her home.

She was born on July 26, 1928 to the late Shepherd Smith and Annie Mae Darden Smith.

As a young girl, she attended Duplin County Training School.  She furthered her education by earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from Elizabeth City State University.  She earned her Master of Arts degree in education from New York University.

Her 40 years teaching career began in Duplin County and she also taught in Onslow County.  She returned to teaching in Duplin County where she later retired.

Mother Hill was a member of Burning Bush Holy Church and served in many capacities including recording financial secretary, Sunday School teacher, youth leader, a member of the motherboard, church clerk, trustee board and executive board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Sprunt Hill.  Those left to cherish her memories are one son, Michael Hill of Garner, one daughter, Deidra Sinclair (Ronald) of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren and a host of other relatives and loving friends.

The family will be present from 5:00-6:00 p.m. Monday, October 4, 2021 to receive friends.
