Jamestown - Ms. Bertha Gayle Pigford, 73 transitioned Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at High Point Medical Center, High Point, NC.
She is the daughter of the late King Solomon Pigford and Dicie Butler Pigford and was born in Wayne County on February 6, 1950.
Gayle was a lady that possessed many gifts and talents. She was an excellent cook and baker with pumpkin rolls being one her specialties. Arts and crafts, calligraphy, cross stich and gardening were past times that she enjoyed. An excellent seamstress was among her many talents as well. Her family joked that the only thing that she hadn't made were a pair of shoes. Boatsie Boxes was the name of the project that she started to serve military troops. This endeavor grew so large that it superseded the NC State Employees Credit Union in Roanoke Rapids where she was employed as a Teller Services Manager but included all NC State Employee Credit Unions as participants.
Her kindness and compassion for others will be greatly missed not only by her family but by those whose lives she touched.
Cherished and loving memories will remain in the hearts of her daughters, Treva Hernandez (Emmanuel) of Jamestown and Dicie Nathani (Sumeet) of Raleigh; two grandsons, Aarav and Aayan Nathani of Raleigh; siblings, Peggy Pigford of Philadelphia, Linda Pigford of Mt. Olive, Garry Pigford (Leatha) of Mt. Olive, Sharon Brown (William Alston) of Raleigh, Alfreda Scott (Ralph) of Goldsboro and Terry Pigford (Sharron) of Durham; sister-in-law, Teresa Pigford of Philadelphia, PA; one aunt, one uncle and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she has been reunited with her brothers, Phillip Wayne Pigford, Neal Pigford, Albert Pigford and Keith Pigford.
