Charles Dobson Obituary

Charles Haywood Dobson was born March 8th 1952 and left this life on April 15th 2020.  Born in Duplin County, he is the son of the late Gertie Mae Dobson and Octavious Dobson.  He attended grade school at E.E. Smith and graduated from East Duplin High School where he met his wife Wanda Dobson of 48 years.  After graduating from high school, he moved to New York.  Charles attended barber school at night while working at Florsheim shoe store during the day.  He also acquired his real estate license and attended Bronx Community College where he graduated with an associates degree in Accounting.  Yes, Charles was an over achiever.  He believed in having multiple plans and options.

Charles was a very hard-working man and sometimes had to leave school to help his father work.  Despite of all the challenges, he still achieved his goals.  He worked at the United States Postal Service for 35 years.  While he was there, he obtained his CDL to drive a commercial truck. Charles had so many friends through the years and they became part of the extended family. His greatest joy was his family that included his children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews.

In his downtime, he loved to travel and play golf.  He took time to enjoy life as well as work.

Charles leaves behind to mourn his wife, Wanda K. Dobson; daughter, Valeshia Brown of Durham; son, Demetrius Dobson of Bronx, NY; daughter-in-law, Marta Dobson of Bronx, NY; sisters, Daisy Benjamin and Mildred Dobson of Bronx, NY, Sudie Dobson of Kansas City, MO, Annie Whitfield of Pink Hill, NC, Wanda DeGraffenreid of Raleigh, NC and Gwendolyn Kornegay of Kinston, NC; brother, Clyde Dobson of Antelope, CA; grandchildren, Jasmine Torres of Durham, NC, Dante Dobson of Greensboro, NC, Tahlia Brown and Jadon Brown of Durham, NC and Kamila Toribio of Bronx, NY.  A host of nieces, nephews and close friends.

In addition to his parents, he has been reunited with his brothers, Lawrence Dobson and Melvin Dobson.
