Albertson - Mrs. Doris Bizzell, 91 quietly departed this earthly realm Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Doris was born January 6, 1930 in Albertson, NC to Gaston and Minnie Branch. Doris was the fourth child of seven children born to Gaston and Minnie. Doris attended Branch Elementary School in Albertson, Atkins High School in Kinston, NC and graduated from Kenansville High School, Kenansville, NC. Doris married her soul mate Vance Oliver Bizzell (deceased 1995) on November 8, 1947. Their union was blessed with six children, Miriam, Elaine (deceased), Vance II, Christopher (deceased), Minoso, and Alfonza (deceased).
Doris and Vance moved to Baltimore, Maryland after Vance returned from the Armed Forces in 1953. She went to Cosmetology school and became a beautician and worked for her sister Gertrude. She also enjoyed baking and soon started working in a bakery. Always planning to return to their beloved North Carolina, they purchased a home in Albertson in 1969. Doris was industrious and was always looking for ways to improve her family’s life, so she pursued a career in health care. Doris soon began working at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore as a Nurse Technician and later advanced to an EKG Technician before retiring in 1977. Doris returned to North Carolina in 1977 after retirement from St. Agnes hospital in Baltimore and she obtained employment with the Duplin County Health Department for 15 years and retired in 1995.
She began a devout Christian as a child and sang in the choir at Salem FWB church. Doris was always an active church member in Sunday School, and Bible Study. She supported her church Salem Chapel FWB Church in all events and served as the Kitchen Supervisor and co-chair of the Decorating Committee for several years. Doris was a Mother of Salem FWB Church until her passing. Doris was an extremely caring and loving family member & friend. As a child and in adulthood she always offered a caring and supportive hand to her parents, siblings, extended family members and friends. She stood out amongst her siblings with her parents as the dependable child who worked hard. As a wonderful caring grandmother and wife, she and her husband spent the summers & holidays caring for her grandchildren. Doris loved traveling, craft making, gardening, and cooking. She loved to cook a meal/cake, and everyone loved to taste it. She loved traveling with her sisters every year to various destinations. Their trips took them to Europe, Canada, Mexico, West Coast, and numerous states across America.
Doris is survived by her daughter Miriam (Henry), son Vance II, and son Minoso (Carrie). Her grandchildren Elaine Celeste, Qiana Monique, Crystal, Brianna, and Treshawn. Her great grandchildren Treschelle (Qiana), Domonique (Qiana), Terry (Celeste), Devin (Crystal), Rian (Qiana), JaMarie (Brianna), and Amelia (Brianna). Her sisters, Mable Branch Henry, Yvonne Branch West, Minnie Branch Clark, and brother Lindbergh Branch. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
