Kenansville - Eva Ruth Southerland Miller, daughter of the late Thomas James and Annie Ruth Southerland, was born on March 26, 1937 in Kenansville, North Carolina.
She entered into her heavenly home on Wednesday, February 15, 2023.
Eva was educated in the public schools of Duplin County, North Carolina. After graduation from high school, she attended St. Augustine College in Raleigh, N.C. and Barnes Business School in Goldsboro, N.C.
Eva worked at several jobs during her lifetime. She was a secretary for Duplin County Public Schools at E.E. Smith High School for several years. She left the school system to work as a librarian at Kenansville Public Library. After retiring from the library, Eva began working at The Service of the Age until her health declined.
She was joined in holy matrimony to the late Robert Miller and this union was blessed with two children. Their son Rodney preceded her in death also.
Eva leaves to cherish her precious memory; one daughter, Deirdre Miller Cherry (Michael) Durham, NC; one granddaughter, Sheena M. Riddick, Durham, NC; three sisters, Helen S. McGowan (James), Kenansville, NC; Shirley S. Mills ( Randolph), Durham, NC; Gloria M. Carter (James), Fayetteville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Nannie Barfield, Mt. Olive, NC; and Mildred Miller, Kinston, NC; one aunt, Mavis Southerland, Kenansville, NC; a special nephew, Kevin Miller, Kinston, NC; three special cousins, Lafayette Hall, Doreen Manley, and Thomas L. Southerland , Kenansville, NC; two loving healthcare workers, Erika Stevens, Wilmington, NC and Shigeta Bryant Wallace, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends who loved her dearly.
