Mrs. Evelynn Mumford Raynor, 91 peacefully transitioned Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at her home.
Born in Jones Co., she is the daughter of the late Charlie and Esther Mills Mumford.
She grew up in Kinston, North Carolina and graduated from Adkins High School. She furthered her education and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from Winston-Salem Teachers College, now known as Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.A proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, she was initiated in the Gamma Phi Chapter on the campus of WSSU.
She retired after 33 years of teaching in various counties including Wayne County where she taught at Carver Elementary and Brogden Primary Schools. After her retirement she worked as a substitute teacher in Wayne County.
An active member in her community, she was a member of Vision of Faith Free Will Baptist Church and a current member of St. Mark Free Will Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher for thirty years and a member of the Mother Board.
Her love and legacy will be cherished by her husband, Earl D. Raynor Sr.; two children, Ivey Raynor Brown and Earl D. Raynor Jr.; four grandchildren; one great grandchild; three god children, nieces, nephews and other devoted relatives and friends.
