Born in Duplin County, he is the son of Swannie Bell Branch and O'neal McCoy Branch Sr.
He attended Branch School, B.F. Brady and East Duplin High School in his youth where he loved to play basketball and football until he started his career as a truck driver. He also helped to run the family restaurant, Branch's Barbeque. One of his proudest moments is when he and his wife founded their own restaurant, Branch's & Sons in Deep Run, NC.
He leaves treasured memories with his wife, Dawn S. Branch; daughters, Ponchitta Jones and Lauren Branch; son, Matthew Branch; adopted daughter, Dedrina Foye; stepdaughters, Vivian Redd and Amelia Winters; father, O'neal Branch Sr.; sister, Sonya Purnell-Branch, Brothers, Gary Jones and O'Neil Branch; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his mother, he has been reunited with his stepfather, John Moses Branch; brothers, O'Neal Branch Jr, and Anthony Bowden and stepbrothers, John Branch Jr. and Daniel Branch.
