Washington, DC - Mrs. Gloria Jean Monroe, 67 formally of Wayne Co., transitioned Thursday, June 24, 2021 at her home with her husband and daughter by her side.
Born in Wayne Co., she is the daughter of the late Robert Ezzell Jr. and Annie Mildred Williams Ezzell and wife of Thomas Monroe Jr.
"Glo" as she was affectionately known to many, never met a stranger; everyone was a friend. Her personality was infectious and you couldn't help but love her.
She accepted Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church Calypso, Calypso, NC. Gloria received her formal education in Wayne County Public School System and graduated from Southern Wayne High School in 1971. After graduation, she relocated to Washington, DC.
Gloria leaves to cherish her memory, her caring and devoted husband of 23 years years, Thomas J. Monroe Jr.; her beloved daughter, Katrina Allen Austin and her dear mother, Annie Mildred Ezzell. She also leaves three special daughters, Monica Arrington, Keitha Marciel (Mario) and Nadia Monroe and a special son, Marqel Allen; former son-in-law, Joseph Austin Jr.; grandchildren, Kyra and Aaron as well as Nathan, Xavier, Deqwan, Deezya and Devin; five loving siblings, Ann E. Jones, Alfonso Ezzell (Shirley), Kenneth Ezzell, Charles Ezzell and Judith Ezzell Davis (Warren) and eleven sisters and brothers-in law. A truly family woman, she loved all her nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of other close relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
In addition to her father, Gloria has been reunited with her beloved son, Michael Perry Allen Jr.
