Seven Springs - Deacon James Garfield Flanagan Sr., 71 of 473 Greenfield Cemetery Rd. peacefully transitioned from this life to life everlasting Friday, August 20, 2021 at his home.
Born in Duplin County on November 2, 1949, he is the son of the late Zelda Mae Flanagan and Bill Bowden.
He joined Best Chapel FWB at a young age serving on the Deacon Board, Usher Board, Trustee Board, President of the Senior choir and Best Chapel Male Chorus.
Deacon James was blessed with the gift of praying;lifting the name of Jesus. He was also blessed with the talent of playing Baseball and softball for Piggly Wiggly at Daugherty Field in Mount Olive, where many trophies and tournaments were won.
Deacon James enjoyed fishing, cooking for family, talking and cutting hair. Deacon James never met a stranger always making people feel welcome and lending a helpig hand.
Until his health began to decline, Deacon James worked at Boling Chair in 1971, Burling 1976, Wayne county Sherriff in 1980 and retiring from Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Goldsboro in 1994.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Linda Kaye Flanagan who was faithfully by his side for 15 years of the home; daughter, Shonda Flanagan Artis of LaGrange, son, James Garfield Flanagan Jr of New York, daughter, Natasha Whitfield of the home. Grandson, Technical Sgt. Clark (Trey) Mills III, wife Damitrice Mills of LaGrange,NC, Jacque Raynor of Snow Hill, NC, Jasmine Barfield of Alexandria, VA, Whitney Barfield of New Port News, VA, James Garfield Flanagan III of New Port News, VA. A very special granddaughter, Samiya Lewis of the home; one great grandchild, Elijah lee Mills of LaGrange, NC; two sisters, Pamela Gail Henderson of Seven Springs, NC and Allison Bowden of la Grange, NV; one bother, Michael Waterman of Georgia; a very special cousin who was more like a brother, Patrick Leon Flanagan; one aunt, Dollie Ann James (David) of Seven Springs, NC; a special nephew, Ramon Whitfield of Mount Olive; lifelong friend, Eddie McCullen and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other loving family and many friends.
