Clayton - Mr. James Stanley, 86 of 671 Averasboro Dr. (formally of Pink Hill) answered the Master's call on Friday, May 8, 2020 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law.
James Roscoe grew up in the little town of Pink Hill, NC, and received his education in the Duplin
County school system.
Throughout his 86 years, the Lord has richly blessed James and his family. He was united in marriage to the late Helen M. Stanley for 43 years. Together they raised seven children to be responsible men and women, to never allow anything to separate the love between siblings, and to be God-fearing. He exemplified the role of a father working and providing for his family. Not once did the family lack the necessities of life. Whatever we lacked in our physical need, it was replaced with his love. After 43 years of marriage and the passing of the late Helen Stanley, he remarried Swannie Edwards. The two shared a love for each other as well as a love for traveling. He gained a daughter through this marriage that he loved and treated as his own.
James was employed and was a dedicated worker with the Duplin County Schools. Particularly working at East Duplin High School as a custodian. He always provided words of wisdom to the boys and girls that he met daily.
In his church, he was known as Deacon Stanley and was chosen Deacon of the Year in 2010. He never missed noon-day pray on Fridays and bible study on Wednesday nights assuming his health was good. Attending church on Sunday mornings and traveling with the church family on the van for evening services was a highlight in his life. He loved assembling with the saints and fellowship.
As his health began to fail he wanted the children to know, that the best thing for him would be that the children all had a relationship with our Lord and Savior because he was the only person that would be able to keep us.
Precious memories will be cherished by his wife Swannie Bell Edwards; Children, Stephen Frederick (Gloria), William Frederick (Cathy), Jacqueline Caldwell (Lynn), Deborah Sims (Michael), Lavern Peele (James), Lynette Smith (Robin), James M.
