Saturday, October 8, 2022, was the day the spirit of Mable Pauline Blackmore Peterson Branch returned unto her Creator God. Mable was born in Warsaw, North Carolina to the late George Seymore and Lillian Huffman Blackmore., She was educated in the Duplin County school system and joined First Baptist Church and started her Christian Education early in life. Mable graduated from Douglass High School in 1941. She left Warsaw to attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and graduated in 1945.
Mable met the very handsome, Henry James "Bro" Peterson and was married on December 25, 1947. She had a beautiful wedding, the first held at First Baptist Church Warsaw. To this union three children were born; Deborah, Henry Jr. "Jimmy", and Denice. After 42 years of marriage, Bro proceeded her in death. She later married Hall Branch and gained a daughter, the late Suzie Mozingo and granddaughter, Averina Mozingo and a son, Kirby Cooper. They were married fifteen months before his death.
Mable worked in various capacities during her life. She started a kindergarten in her home for the children of Warsaw since there was no kindergarten in the public school system. She worked as a Home Demonstration Agent for Duplin and New Hanover counties and spent thirty years in the public schools of Duplin and Wayne counties as an educator. She retired in 1985 from education but soon opened Pepper-DU Fashions in Goldsboro with her children and their spouses. After Denice's death and five year of business, Pepper-DU Fashions closed its doors.
At the age of 80 years old, Mable moved to Greensboro, NC to live with her daughter and her family for the next sixteen years of her life. From 2019 until her death, she spent her time in Atlanta, Georgia with her son Jimmy and his wife, Nettie.
Surviving is her daughter, Deborah Peterson Underwood of Greensboro, NC; her son, Henry James "Jimmy" Peterson, Jr, of Atlanta, Georgia; her son-in-love, Drury Byron Underwood and her daughter-in-love, Nettie Cassady Peterson; four grandchildren, Joy Underwood (Jushaun Allen), Candace Underwood Price (Jermaine), Malika Nicloe Durham and Quinton Ryan Peterson (Tiffany); ten great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
She has been reunited with her parents, George Seymore and Lillian Blackmore; siblings, Mankie, Evelyn, Bayetta, Gloria, A.P. and George; husbands, Henry "Bro" Peterson and Hall Branch and daughter, Denice.
