Marilyn Simmons

New York - Ms. Marilyn Simmons,64 (formally of Sampson Co.) transitioned Wednesday, November 29, 2023.

Born to Geraldine Simmons and Eugene Boykin, Marilyn grew up and spent her childhood in Faison, North Carolina. Lovingly known as Cootie, Marilyn was raised with all the benefits of country living, including fresh air and an abundance of love. Her passion for education extended even into retirement. She willingly volunteered to help any child who struggled on their educational journey by offering customized free assessments, resources, and tutoring that would be financially out of reach for many families.

Her legacy can be seen shining bright in the lives of her loving daughter Schanita Ratnayake (Sujith Ratnayake), grandson Kashyapa Ratnayake; Sisters, Regina Simmons-Pender (Kurtis Pender) and Tanya Moore; niece, Fontayne Hassell; nephew, Nkozi and great nephew, Oaklyn Simmons Moss, as well as a host of other family and friends with whom she shared laughter and love.
