Rock Hill, SC - Rosalind Brock Armwood Abernathy was born May 21, 1938, to Kermit D. Brock and Lily Mae Brock. Rose, as she was affectionately called, slipped away to be with Jesus, in the home she shared with her daughter, Cynthia and her son-in-love, Kenneth Lofton.
She grew up in Mount Olive, NC, received her education at Carver High School and returned after graduation to work in the office as a secretary. Rose knew every student's name, their parent's names, the street they lived on, the bus they rode back and forth to school. Her memory was amazing.
After 37 years as Carver secretary, she retired and moved to Plainfield, NJ. There she married Arnold Abernathy, who a few years later preceded her in death.
Rose was a member of Payne Temple AME Zion Church in Mount Olive serving as a Secretary/Treasurer of the church and the Board of Trustee Member. When she moved to New Jersey, she joined Calvary Baptist Church and remained a member until she moved to Rock Hill, SC. In Rock Hill she joined Ebenezer Baptist Church and remained there until death.
Rose was a charter member of the Carver Alumni Association joining in August of 1982. She was a member of Southern Wayne County Alumni Association and Professional Women's Club. She served as Registrar of Mount Olive NC Precinct from 1984 until 1997. She was a Democratic Judge of the Mount Olive Precinct from 1984 until 1986 and again from 1992 until 1994. She was a member of the Wayne County Association of Educational Office Personnel, an elected town official for the Town of Mount Olive, a notary for the State of North Carolina and the State of New Jersey.
She received numerous awards: Southern Wayne County Business and Professional Women's "Woman of the Year", Mount Olive 4H Club "Outstanding Community Service Award"' Mount Olive "Doctor Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award" and Mount Olive area Chamber of Commerce "Secretary of the Year".
Rose was married to Charles Armwood and to this union two children were born, Cynthia and Cheryl. They were her pride and joy next to her love for Daddy God, her family were the most important things in the world.
Along with her husband, Arnold, she was preceded in death by her mother and father, her brother, Robert Brock and her sister, Judy Sampson.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Cynthia (Kenneth Lofton) and Cheryl Izegbu.
