Bamberg, SC - ,Mr. Raphel Faison Sr. was born in Mt. Olive, North Carolina on May 28, 1937 to the late Lura and Vernon Faison. He attended the public schools of Mt. Olive and attended Carver High School. Affectionately known as "Joe" by both family and friends, he served his country with honors during the Korean Conflict while in the U,S. Army. After his release from the military service, he relocated to New York City, where he met and married the former Juanita Williams. They married on December 2, 1961. In 1988, he retired from Brooklyn Union Gas Company after more than 30 years of employment as a supervisor.
Joe served on the Vice President of the Deacon Board, President of the Usher Board, and occasionally led in song in the Men's Choir at Mount Sinai Cathedral Church of God in Christ in Brooklyn, New York. He also served as President of the Deacon Board and Trustee Board at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ.
In 1999, they relocated to Bamberg, South Carolina where they resided until his passing.
Joe leaves behind his dear wife, Juanita, their four children- Coral (Roosevelt) Morris, Raphel (Angela) Faison Jr., LaShawn (Timothy) Bradley and Alvarez (Heather) Faison; his siblings - Juanita (Walter) Kelly, Pattie Mae Wooten, Shirley Faison, Eldress Esther (Donald) Ashford and Carl (Helen) Faison; nine grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
